Book supply and delivery
The core aim of The Indigenous Literacy Project (ILP) is to deliver books and literacy
resources to remote Indigenous Communities. In 2009, ILP delivered 15,000 books
into 160 remote communities across Australia.
Maddy Bower, ILP Co-ordinator, contacts or visits
remote communities around Australia with a box or list of carefully selected books. Schools and community centres are invited to order books
from this box/list. Though donations play a huge part in our ability to supply
books and literacy resources, ILP is also aided by the generosity of The
Australian Book Industry, and the volunteer commitment of writers, booksellers
and publishers; thousands of books are supplied by publishers at cost or below
cost,as well as freight free. This doubles or triples the buying power of every
dollar raised. Currently The Fred Hollows Foundation staff Debra Dank
and Maddy Bower manage and administer the delivery of books, and Robyn Huppert
at The Australian Booksellers Association orders and negotiates the best possible
discount for books
